|
|
Hello all.
I'm trying to connect an option gt 3g+ card to a portuguese operator (TMN).
I installed the nozomi drivers and gcom which is able to identify the network and register.
However, looking at the cards lights and/or checking with gcom's reg command I see that the registration is lost after about 10 to 15 seconds, which I guess is why I cannot logon with wvdial or kppp.
This happens in both 2G mode (signal ~20) and 3G mode (signal ~10)
Also, I usually get SIM Errors a few times before being able to register.
Can anyone help me?
Cheers,
miguel |

Hi Miguel,
The signal strength looks ok - I would expect you to have a reliable connection with 2G.
The SIM errors are worrying - that should not happen. How hot is it in the office? If the internal temperature of your laptop is very high maybe the SIM could stop working.
Have you checked with TMN that you are running the latest approved firmware?
Cheers,

Hello Paul,
thanks for your reply. I forgot to come back and say what was happening.
The SIM was busted from the start. When I finally decided to try with Windows (which pride was keeping me from doing ) and the same thing happened, I went to the operator which replaced the SIM and everything worked immediately.
I was surprised with one thing, though. Using the nozomi drivers, I noticed from the card's lights that the registration was being made before running gcom (since I disabled the PIN), so I tried kppp and system-control-network (fedora 5) without gcom and both work fine.
Still, gcom is very useful when using PIN, mode changes, diagnostics, etc.
Thanks again.

I'm happy to hear your problem was fixed.
Yes you are right Gcom is not needed if you are always in a good signal location and the PIN is disabled - luck for you
However - I like to know what is happening and I live in a bad location with the card swapping between 2G and 3G all the time.
Dont forget you can always run gcom on another port like /dev/ttyUSB2 (or /dev/noz2 for 'nozomi' cards) while you ppp connection is active.
Cheers,
