Hi,
As promised here is the updated Debian package:
Added Gnome menu entry (tested with UbuntU).
Removed /root file entry from package
Fixed numerous regular expression problems which caused several bugs.
Tested with Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04 (Message updated Using Icon225 and a GPRS link).
Please try it out and let me know.
Cheers,
Paul

it works
The only thing is that at low signal strengths it sometimes comes with 'failed to connect' after about 20 seconds, while my own scripts does connect (after about 25 seconds). Maybe it is a coincidence, or a timeout value might be a bit low.
I have 2 requests.
- is there a way to see the communication with the device? A console of some sorts? Not really needed I understand, but I like to see those things
- I work a lot traveling in trains. This means the switching between 2G/3G/3G2G mode is very important to me (*). I'd like to be able to switch even when the device is connected (I wouldn't care if it'd mean disconnecting-switching-connecting as long as I can do it with a single click )and I'd like (an option) to have the switching buttons/dropdown always visible in the main window. what do you think?
(*) When the train is traveling you want to force 2G mode, since the constant switches between 3G/2G are killing for you connections/throughput, but when in a station (where you know 3G is available) you want to force it to 3G as quick as possible, so you can get some data through in the 3 minutes stop

Great !
You can view a basic debug screen by editing:
/usr/share/HSOconnect/HSOconnect.cfg
changing the debug entry to '1'. and restart the application. It is intended for "internal use" so it is not very pretty.
Good idea, I will make the timeout period configurable in the next release.
I admit I did not consider train stations in the program design - I will think on how to solve your problem.
Cheers,
Paul

Thanks. It is good enough for me

Doesn surprise me
Btw, out of curiosity. I see the app uses /dev/ttyHS1 (application port), while my own scripts use /dev/ttyHS0 (control port). Is there any difference? Should I switch my own scripts (which I will keep using for some automated tasks) to using /dev/ttyHS1?

Been using this since today and works great! I agree that switching 2G/3G modes would be a great feature.
I really like the signal strength bars and the that I can keep track of my data usage. It would be nice to have control over when the usage stats are cleared though.
Keep up the great work!

Hello,
Could you check the hsolink package for amd64 ?
I have downloaded the hsolink_1.0.46-1_amd64.deb file but the Package Manager (on Ubuntu 8.04 with AMD64 arch) complains that the file is corrupted.
The hsoconnect packageis OK but needs the hsolink to install
Thanks,
Pascal

I think I know the problem, try installing the package from the command line
dpkg -i hsolink_1.0.46-1_amd64.deb
[There are many ways to make a good deb package. The first way I tried when making the hsoconnect package did not work with GUI package managers. Perhaps this is the same issue?]
Cheers,
Paul

Awesome job Paul! Thanks for all the hard work.
There is just a couple things I'd like to point out that I had to do for my Option GT Ultra Express card to get hsoconnect to work.
First, this card had to have the HSO packet driver installed as the included Option driver with Kubuntu Hardy 8.04 does not work with it. Second because of the USB drive option on this card, I also have to have the ZeroCD app and udev rule installed as well.
None of this was a problem for me since I had it all installed previously and that's how I was connecting with my card before, but after trying hsoconnect, I thought I'd see if that stuff was required..... and yes, it all is.
Oh, since I use Knetworkmanager for my regular wifi and wired connections, I did have to close it before kde specific apps would recognize the hso connection. My GTK apps did recognize the hso connection with Knetworkmanager running though.
I did read that you have plans in the future to hopefully integrate hsoconnect into the network manager which would be awesome when that time comes, but in the meantime, how difficult would it be to have the app minimize to a tray icon? Just a thought as a tray icon would be quicker to access if your desktop is covered with application windows and it would be nice to see the connection status and/or the signal strength.
An option to disable the network manager upon cellular connect and re-enable on disconnect might be nice for now too.
Again, awesome job!

A more experimental version of HSOconnect has been released (1.1.81).

Hi, Paul!
I too am very interested in the source, since I would like to use the package on a device server (AXIS 89) which has its own alternate compiler and has no GUI.
Could it be possible to do so?
Thanx...
