Ok this still isn't working..
eeePC - xubuntu - 2.6.22-14-generic kernel - icon225 with Orange
I have compiled hso v1.0 and copied into the /extra/dir. I have taken 49_hso-udev.rules.txt moved it to /etc/udev/rules.d/49_hso-udev.rules
When I use connect.sh from http://asuseee.free.fr/tuto/01/icon225.tar.gz I get the following failure:
sudo ./connect.sh up

|
|
I'm quite newbie with linux and ubuntu and I just can't understand fully hese instructions, how to get Option iCON 225 installed and working on Ubuntu 8.04. And I can't French, sorry.
Advices just in style "You also need to install the HSO driver of course" confuces me - so what I really need to do for that?
I have loaded hso-udev rezero package (hso-udev.tar.gz) and it seemed to compile with make and I managed to install it - or at least I think so
How should it be installed in conjunction with HSO 1.1? (hso-1.1.tar.gz)
and how these should be used? (please could you tell clear enought - and all that has to be done
I have read this guide (I think I mainly understood it thus I can't French ; )
http://www.blogeee.net/2008/03/14/tutorial-une-cle-3g-sur-votre-ultraportable-pour-30e/
but as is is for Xandros-linux, it doesn't fit with Ubuntu, at least those scripts doesn't fit - or am I wrond? at least I couldn't run them, with sudo/gksudo on Ubuntu.
Could someone make Ubuntu-version out of this
http://asuseee.free.fr/tuto/01/icon225.tar.gz
and if necessary, for different versions of Ubuntu, what should be changed in those sh-scripts if necessary.
So could you please tell full instructions what I need to do to install it on Ubuntu 8.04 - I'd be wery gratefull.
Does Vodafones utility work with these then?
https://forge.vodafonebetavine.net/frs/?group_id=12&release_id=19
Can that graphical utility be used, does it need hso and rezero first to be installed? I tried to install it solely but it didn't "see" Option iCON 225 while it was plugged in.
So I'm just getting started with linux/Ubuntu and I'm a little terrified: do I really need to search and read so much instructions and discussions and then even figure out more by myself to get something installed and workind on linux/Ubuntu. When people say that they have managed to install and use something, why can't they explain what they have done for that ; ) This takes lots of time and frustrates.
This linux-world seems so confusing compared to install instructions and guides that I have used in Windows world.
I thought that this open source world is open otherwise too, so tell the full truth what should be done and howto ; )

I think you're right rhino, I've tried to get icon225 going with my Dell and I can't.
The settings I used with the vodafone software are at http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html

Sorry, I misunderstood you when you said it was working now, and that was for eeepc not your ordinary laptop.
Regards - Bukunut
PS - Rhino.. There will be a way to get it to work I am sure

Hi there ,
I am trying to get the icon225 stick from german Telecom working with ubuntu 7.10.
However I am having difficulties allready with the installation of the hso-udev.tar.gz
I put it into a directory rezero
after unpackig I get
malubuntu@malubuntu-lapo:~/rezero$ ls
hso.udev Makefile rezero rezero.c
hso-udev.tar.gz README rezero.8 rezero.o
When I type make, I get
malubuntu@malubuntu-lapo:~/rezero$ sudo make
make: Für das Ziel »all« ist nichts zu tun.
This means : there ist nothing to do for the target "all"
what did I do wrong?
Like others I would greatly appreciate a step-by-step how-to
for ubuntu
Thanx
Libertino

as far as I understood the tutorial was for eeepc?
does it work with a standard laptop , too?
Do I really have to use these commands literally?
mkdir /lib/modules/2.6.21.4-eeepc
mkdir /lib/modules/2.6.21.4-eeepc/extra
And do I have to adjust the kernel-version to my kernel?
Did you disable the PIN-request?
Is it working on ubuntu, or on kubuntu only?
Do you need vodafone software?

Thank you,
I finally did it with Equinoxes package. It works great for Ubuntu 7.10 as well as 8.04.

There might be a problem with the madwifi driver for the Atheros5007eg wlan card. I will report , if it persists.
Otherwise great job from Exquinoxe. It was exactly what we needed.
