Hello everyone,

I currently live in Japan and I'd like to get HSDPA/UMTS internet offered here by Emobile (http://emobile.jp/). I have an Option GT 3.6MAX (7.2 ready) wireless card, serial number starting with FN (model GX0202). I decided to try try this card first, before signing the contract, so I borrowed the SIM card from a college of mine and tried.

My system is Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 (kernel 2.6.20-16). The card is recognized correctly and works fine with the usb serial drivers.

I've read a lot of stuff found on the net, including many posts here.... When I try to connect, it connects, but no internet connection (using gnome-ppp or pon). I've read about the routing problem (11.12.13.14.), but it didn't work for me.
After trying some more things I found out that I cannot see the APN of Emobile. ...Here's some output:

-----------------
etc# comgt sig
Trying list of devices
Signal Quality: 21,99
-----------------

----------------------------
etc# comgt -s operator
Trying list of devices
Getting Operator list: .................

+COPS: (3,"JP DoCoMo","DoCoMo","44010",2),(3,"SoftBank","SoftBank","44020",2),,(0, 1, 3),(0-2)
------------------------------

Emobile is not listed here. I begin thinking of incompatibility issues... The original device offered by the provider is Huawei E220 (as far as I can understand) or the other one - D01NE (D01NX). I've found E220 supports up to 2100MHz, but works on 1700MHz with this provider(?).
My GT card supports up to 2100MHz according to official info. ...Though with comgt I can change only Europe/USA standarts. None of them supports 2100?... What I mean is, may be I don't see Emobile in the list because I'm using wrong frequency...

Sorry if I ask weird questions, but it's my first time using such devices...

Thanx

P.S.
My card is Unlocked (the info says "Locked 0"). Is there worldwide just one standart for UMTS/HSDPA, or there could be something different here in Japan?

P.S.2
I tried many things like modprobe-ing the usbserial with id values of my card, no compression, etc...
PIN is not needed (SIM Ready).
Emobile settings: tel.: *99***1#, emb.ne.jp, user: em, pass: em.

I've tried the card with Windouz. It behaves exactly the same way (only Docomo and Softbank are found; no connection.)
It's seems to be a hardware issue - the frequency used by Emobile is not supported by this card:

http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_jp.shtml

Emobile uses 1700MHz, which is obviously not supported by the GT MAX 3.6 (7.2 Ready) card (or at least the GX 0202, FN serial variant).

It seems like this card uses the Qualcomm MSM6280 chipset. More info here:

http://www.cdmatech.com/download_library/pdf/msm6280_chipset.pdf

or here:
http://www.cdmatech.com/docs_details/chip_tool/chip_results.jsp?chip=21
(RF and PM -> View chipset combinations)

Although not sure about the exact RF&PM combinations for that card, most probably it is one of those that does not support the 1700MHz frequency.

P.S.
Some old logs here:

1. Two logs - first one with the original modem (D01NX)- successful. Second one - with the Globetrotter card.

You are correct...

The 1700 Mhz band that eMobile uses is only available in Japan and is 3G only.

The GX202 supports 850,1900 an 2100 Mhz 3G bands which are the main bands for 3G worldwide.
