My internet conection was the only thing keeping me from switching to linux completely, but finally it's all working!
Now... Just a very minor issue: is there any way to probe the current download and upload speed? I have some desklets and stuff to display that info on the desktop, but I can't seem to find a way of monitoring the connection speed. Total traffic volume would also be neat. Any suggestions? Obviously, I'm using the nozomi module, comgt, and wvdial. Thanks.

I sometimes use iptraf to get an approximation of bandwidth, and of course to see what is happening over the chosen connection. I am not sure how accurate it is, and I would love to learn about other alternatives too.

I am using VNSTAT (just look at google). It is a command showing you the upload/download (if you wish, by interface (e.g. ppp or eth) and also sorts the output by month, year etc.
