Thank you Paul (and Others too) for your great work to make possible to use Option iCON 225 with linux-distros.

Thus, while reading these guides, just came into my mind that would be very useful and wise, especially to linux newbies, to to include these zero-steps in those complete step-by-step -guides ( :

1) To able to compile (make) hso- and hsoudev- and other drivers/utilities install these things first to your machine (at least works in Ubuntu) by saying in Terminal :

sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)

(latter ensures that you allways get the same version or the headers as your installed linux-kernell is)

So, Paul, that should be included as step zero in your guide
http://www.pharscape.org/content/view/66/53/

2) while compiling (make) these hso and hsoudev packages, there may be some precompiled objects, that don't fit and which disrupt things, so it may be good thing to do make clean first (if it is declared!), so

make clean
make
sudo make install

3) hso : connect.sh seems to use just hso01-port, but bcause it may change, I suggest this change in connect.sh -script to correct that problem :

DEVICE=`dmesg |grep "Control port" | tail -n 1 | gawk '{print $7}'`

so in Terminal gedit connect.sh ...

and to get that work one should install first gawk, so in Ubuntu this way :
sudo apt-get install gawk

4) When guide says something "check that ..." or "do something...", could you tell how? so what command to use exactly? so please, don't let linux newbies to figure out, how to do that (especially when you seem to know it allready Very Happy I personally hate "full step-by-step guides" that actually are not such (and far better to update the original guide than to force one to read lots of reply posts with relevant additional information/steps - so updatable wiki kinda quide would be much better : )
But after all, this site is the Ultimate resource for Option 3G owner ( : Thank You!

I have installed now Ubuntu 8.04.1 on my very new Acer Aspire One mini laptop (1,6ghz processor, 1,5gb ram, 8gb SDDflashdrive, 9" display, good keyboard, wlan, 3 x usb, webcam, mic, vga-out, 2 memory card readers(even for +16gb cards), NO modem/optical drive, weights < 1kg and really portable with only 300 euros Smile. Installing hso-driver and hsoudev/rezero-utility succeeded (= I can use my Option iCON 225 now with connect.sh up/down).
Then I installed hsolink/connect (hsolink_1.0.46-1_i386.deb and hsoconnect-py2.5_1.1.83_all.deb) and installation "succeeded", but haven't succeeded to get HSOconnect work yet - at least not all the time. Actually HSOconnect worked at first, but it was just one time Very Happy then, after that, when I try to use it, it just asks PIN, I enter it and then it shows connection strength, I click Connect and then it just says scanning...
I have made new Profile for my operator and give PIN that it asks.

Paul, of your Ubuntu guide
(http://www.pharscape.org/content/view/66/53/)
when I say this, I get :
Am I in the dialout group?
memyself@masiina:~$ grep dialout /etc/group dialout:x:20:memyself
/etc/group:dialout:x:20:memyself
grep: dialout:x:20:memyself: No such file or directory

If I was not in the dialout group then I could use the command:
memyself@masiina:~$ usermod -a -G dialout memyself
usermod: salasanatiedostoa ei voi lukita
(that was Finnish, so cannoct lock passwordfile - or something like that)
memyself@masiina:~$ sudo usermod -a -G dialout memyself
memyself@masiina:~$
memyself@masiina:~$ grep dialout /etc/group dialout:x:20:memyself
/etc/group:dialout:x:20:memyself
grep: dialout:x:20:memyself: No such file or directory

So what is/went wrong? And suggestions what I should do to that?
This mini laptop doesn't have modem, just wlan, so could due to that that dialout -group missing? Should I just add it? so does HSOconnect rely on that group and user belonging in it?

HSOconnect debug-window shows :

So could anyone suggest some solution?

just a hint : if one replaces icon-images in http://www.pharscape.org/content/view/66/53/ with this, one gets icons like in my attached HSOconnect window; or put your own icon-png-pics there (same size!)
